4Strokes.com Honda Articles: XR500 & XR350 Tips & Fixes by Ron Griewe (of Cycle World, 9/83)

| XR500R Airbox Mod This is an 1983 XR500R with the top of the airbox modified for better air flow to the carburetor. The voltage regulator has been relocated to the front of the airbox water dam. The airbox water dam has been trimmed between the voltage regulator and the frame tube to make more room for the wiring loom to pass through. |

Oil Supply Hose The short hose coming from the frame tube supplies oil to the engine. Use caution when replacing, it's easily twisted. If twisted, it restricts the oil flow and can ruin the engine. The oil drain plug, lower front of the frame tube, is aluminum and easily broken if over tightened. Spark Plug Resistor The spark plug has a resistor that causes a misfire when hot. Take it out and substitute it for a piece of brass rod. |
