I'm looking to get some more use out of my '94 XR250L this summer. I believe it has the original sprockets and chain. Since I will probably replace the sprockets and chain this winter, should I consider changing the gearing?
I haven't driven my XR much over 50 or 55mph because of gearing concerns. I would probably get more use out of it if I could safely go 65mph. What sprocket(s) should I go to if I wanted to pick up a little more mph?
Thanks,
Doug

If you are looking for more top speed, the easiest and cheapest option would be to go up 1 tooth on the countershaft sprocket(front). It gives the most affect for amount of teeth. I don't know what you have as stock but that would be my suggestion.

Changing the rear to smaller teeth seems to slow down the acceleration quite a bit more than changing the front up teeth. Maybe it's just me, but that's what I've figured from mass changing of sprockets for highway use on my 400.

Try these as well, from the tech section:

Good luck,

Hey Robb,
Thanks for the response. That will probably be an easier fix than trying to find the correct rear sprocket for my XR250L. I believe the front sprockets for the L and R models were the same but the rear sprockets are different.
