I recently bought a 2000 Yamaha YZ 426. When i got it, it just had a oil change. After about 2 1/2 days of moderate riding i checked the oil and it was sooty black like almost like dirt was mixxed in. I know these are race bikes and they have aggressive cams and 5 a valve cylinder head, and they burn fuel like a gas station on fire. But is the oil sopposed to get sooo black sooo fast??? I had a 2002 Honda XR 200R before the Yamaha and the oil would last a lot longer, but its not a race bike. help!!!

I used to ride a '02 XR200R, but now I ride a '00 YZ426F

could be from blowby in the rings.if it is pretty worn it will make your oil black fast.

Anyone else out there know what might be causing the oil to get so dirty after 1 or 2 rides? I also used some fuel injector/carb cleaner to clean the fuel system, could this be the cause?

that could be your problem too.might have cleaned off all the carbon deposits and ended up in your oil.one other thing it could be is if your bike is running really rich.if it is the same as a truck.my bronco was running really rich and the oil got black very fast.i had a bad fuel regulator making it run rich.

Whats more of a chance, that the piston rings are worn, or the deposits are causing that? Also when i looked in the exhaust outlet, the end cap was sooty black like the oil. Is it more of a possibility that if the carb/combustion chamber had never been cleaned it could cause that much carbon in the oil? I mean the bike is only 3 years old and it aint worn in any way.

it could be just worn piston and rings.my xr 600 ran perfect for 15 years and then last year it started to turn my muffler outlet black inside.i thought i was just running rich.well i rebuilt the top end and did a valve job and now its clean again.3 years for a hotrod like your bike can be worn out because of the small piston skirt.the new crf has the small piston skirt like yours and they say to put a new topend in every 15 hours!maybe do a compression check on it.

Ok, i'll do a compression check to see if the rings are worn. Thanks, i'll post later this week to tell you the outcome.

Hey Kubiak, it's not the rings. The guy i got it from just never cleaned the deposits out of the engine. I don't have that prob anymore. The oil after 3 rides is as clean as can be.

Make sure you go no more than 3 rides without changing the oil. I change mine every other race/practice. Not that it will get "dirt" in it as much as it will be contaminated with clutch material and metal shavings. I clean the filter every other oil change.
