So i got an 04 250f yesterday, i rode it all day it has a fresh engine and everything else pretty much my old man knew the dude at the shop that i got it so it should be sweet. But i had to jump start the thing most of the time. I dont know much about the bike yet i havent had a bike since i was 12. So is this the valve problems? er anything else? and sometimes itll start whether its hot or cold. and sometimes it seems theres not much compresion when i kick it over.

Are you using the hot start? When it is cold, turn the idle up a turn or two, full choke, two blips of the throttle and kick 'er good. When warm, hold the hot start lever in, two blips of the throttle, kick 'er over good.

If it is still hard to start, I would check valve clearances, and maybe give the spark plug a change and the carburetor a cleaning.

Good luck!

DON'T blip the throttle when you try to start it hot. The hot start leans out the fuel mixture, blipping the throttle only balances everything out. You don't want that.

Still, check your valves anyway, just to be safe. You can never be too sure with these new thumpers.

I guess it depends on how your bike is jetted, because my bike will start every time with that procedure, never had an issue.
