Has anyone rode the 2008 KTM EXC and willing to share their opinion of the bike. I need more than my Suzuki 400 DRZ can give.

My wife got me a 530 for my 40th birthday and due to the climate up North I only got 1 day on it before the snow hit and -10 temps followed. The day I got to ride was on tight woods and hills and the only thing that needs changing is to gear it down form 15x45 to 14x50 sprockets. I am just breaking it in so I took it easy but the power is great! In an open field it is amazing to see how the back tire can dig deep and throw long. On open road 60 mph was just lopping along. The thing has long legs - even geared down it will go faster than a dirt bike should. I am getting off an XR400 that is a little like me - getting a bit old, a little heavy, and a little more concerned about gravity. The 530 is a truly modern bike. I once told a guy if anyone built a 250 pound street legal dirt bike I would buy it. At the time he said it was not possible. Lucky for me (us) it is and I didn't have to write the check - the Mrs. did it for me!

I heard that the tall gearing was a complaint across the board for the 08 EXC's.

Thank you for your responses. I have since sold the Suzuki 400 and purchased the KTM 530. It is still in a crate waiting for the weather to warm up. I have been warned that service will be more frequent and detailed, but that I should not be dissappointed when rolling back on the thottle. Congradulations to anyone fortunate enough to have a wife/Mrs to buy them a motorcycle. I once got a nice pair of hiking shoes from my wife for a birthday gift. However, I had to pay for them on the next Visa billing.

Congrats on the new bike! Once you have it all together, tell us how it is!

Picked up my bike February 19. Due to weather, I have not been able to ride yet. So far the bike has been jetted for 6,000 feet, 15T sprocket off and 13T sprocket on, exhaust restrictor cut off, and the evaporative canister taken off. Some disappointments are the lack of storage for tools (ordered a fender bag), the bottom of the motor is exposed (ordered a skid plate), placement of the switch cluster and clutch lever (this will take some drilling and grinding to fix), and getting use to the kick stand action. I am confident all will be well when the weather becomes tolerable for a few short rides.
