This article is written from a female prospective about the new Yamaha 2008 XT250. This is a great bike for women who are looking for a motorcycle just for themselves or to ride together with the family. I myself purchased this dual sport so I could ride along with my husband and son.

To start things off the bike does have some draw backs. Probably the the biggest thing that needs to be fixed is the access to the tool kit. Having to need a tool to get to the tool kit in an emergency is stupid. I've found that replacing the stock screw with a drum cymbal clamp screw works perfect. But you will still have to carry a drum key on your key ring. The second is the Taiwanese made Cheng Shin tires due to poor on \ off road performance. They don't grip the dirt well causing you to feel like your riding on ice. On the road they vibrate which cause the handle bars to shake side to side and skid too easy when braking. Yamaha does recommend in the manual you can use Dunlop tires as a replacement. They do give you the model number. Lastly you have to replace the rubber o-rings on the motor every time you do routine maintenance because of plastic covers. The plastic covers can't be tightened down hard so some oil weeping is normal. But replacing the rubber seals every time cuts down on this.

Now that the bad is out of the way we can really talk about the bike. Here's why this bike is perfect for woman. Being only 5' 3" its' seat height is not too high like most of the other dual sports out there. And is very comfortable on long rides. The weight is well balanced and manageable giving a great feeling of confidence on \ off road. These things are very important to smaller women. The engine has more power than its' closest compared rival. Not that that is really important, but it is quicker. The smog pump on the engine is well hidden and doesn't hurt the bikes' looks. The digital speedometer numbers are huge and at a glance easy to read. It has a clock so you can tell the guys it's time to head home. You also have an extra storage compartment, great for girlie stuff. The passenger handle grips not only make it easy to pick up in a fall but work well for moving it around in the garage. The XTs' looks are sexy making you feel the same. From a woman Yamaha got this right!

There was an issue with the OEM tires wobbling and shaking because they were out of round. Your dealer will replace them with another brand. Another chap that works at a Yamaha dealer, said they replaced 35 so far on 2008 XT250's.

2005 XT225 - Dunlop 606 front, Kenda 760 rear, Promoto Billet rack, fuel screw 3 turns out, 130 main, 42.5 pilot, Z1 exhaust mod, 1/2 snorkel,UNI filter, Bill's footpegs.
2006 DRZ250 - Ground out header weld, Dual sport lighting-bike is plated. Promotobillet rack. #15 pilot, #137.5 main (CA carb) airbox opened up. UNI filter, needle shimmed .07"
Both "retirement" knee replacement bikes

Not so much of a general recall, but an admission by Yamaha that if you have the "wobbles", they will replace the tire. I don't know what the OEM tire is. My XT225 had Cheng Shin tires on it originally. I would get your dealer to act on it. ASAP.

My XT250 was so squirrely above 60mph with the cheng shen tires, I got them off of there right away and replaced them with Avon Distanzias, what a dramatic improvement on the street, hugs the turns, smooth up to 82mph+, and great braking traction. Now, I've only had it offroad a couple of times, but it seemed to still bite in the dirt pretty good.
