I have an '85 200M 3-wheeler (same engine as an XR200) that runs great, but goes through plugs every 5-10 hours of riding. The plug does not appear fouled, but will not produce a spark at gap. The plug will produce a spark off the wire to a ground. So something is frying the plug internally and rendering it useless. Any suggestions for a remedy?

Thanks for the response Kubiak. What's wierd is that the plug looks fine, but does not produce a spark. Could there be something wrong with the electrical system, that is frying the plug? This engine runs fantastic and prodces no smoke. It has none of the charateristics that I'm familiar with of an engine that should be going through plugs so rapidly. Most Honda 4-strokes will run on a plug that looks horrible, but not this one. I'm puzzled.

yea,i dont know what else it could be.actually my bike would kind of do the same thing when i had a weak exciter coil.the bike would start easily but after ridden and shut off it wouldnt start after hot till it cooled down.but when i put a new plug in it would start when hot for awhile then do the same thing again and not start as easy after riding a few weeks.then again put a new plug and it would be ok for awhile again and the plug looked great all the time too.now with the new stator and exciter coil it starts hot or cold everytime with one kick.

Well, I'll keep plugging away at it. I might jet it a bit leaner and see if that helps, but it runs so well as is. Thanks for your input Kubiak.
