93 dr-350 dirt model sometimes won't start

MY friend has 93 dr-350 dirt model kick start only, and most of the time it will start on second kick, but sometimes after riding for a bit we will stop and take a break when he gets back on his bike it wont start it takes a ton of kicking to get it going or i will give him a push to start it. any idea what could cause this? I have cleaned the carb & filter it is getting plenty of fuel and air.

1996 Suzuki DR-350se - k&n filter, jet kit, supertrapp IDS2 race series exhaust with 14 disks, air box mods, port & polish, exhaust mods increased air flow, iridium spark plug, 14 tooth front sprocket & 44 rear, custom license plate bracket

I have thought about this bike and was wondering if it could be a bad stator, any help would be great.

These bikes are hard to restart when they are hot. I have found with mine that kicking it over 10-15 times with the decompression lever pulled before trying to start it usually does the trick.
