Whats involved in changing the kickstart return spring....have been running all summer with it broken. Will there be any further damage?

Not a lot..Take the Clutch cover off,Remove the clutch ..follow the manuals instructions.Takes a bit of knowhow to do it easily but it's a pretty straightforward operation. I wouldn't think not fixing it will cause any problems if you can't be bothered.

I did my 1984 XL350r last year a PITA. It's hard to find the broken off end of the spring. I found mine on the other side of the gearbox. Had to use all kinds of bent wires to fish it out. I have no idea how they assembled the thing at the factory either. Don't forget to preload the spring or you get to do it all over again. Good luck.

Thanks, going to tackle it next week. Any special tools required? ie. clutch removal

A impact driver makes getting the clutch nut off easier. See my old post on this job.
