SealSavers ThumbSaver

ThumbSavers are probably the second most commonly known SealSavers product (second to its company-named fork seal protectors). ThumbSavers are one of those products that aid the rider. ThumbSavers simply slide over the hand grip and go against the inside flange, as shown below in the color option links. ThumbSavers cushion your thumb and forefinger from the grip flange and prevent blisters. As mentioned above, installation of a ThumbSaver is extremely easy. It just slides over the grip. If you have the type of hand guards that attach to the ends of the handlebar, they just need to be removed first.

The SealSavers ThumbSaver is a very low-cost product that goes on hand grips to prevent a rider from getting blisters. The only thing easier to install than a ThumbSaver is maybe a decal. We could not find fault with the ThumbSaver, and at less than $5 a pair, there is no reason not to have a pair on your ride. We rated the SealSavers ThumbSaver at a perfect score of 5.

SealSavers Long & Short Fork SealSavers

Fork SealSavers are designed to protect fork seals and wipers from the elements. Fork SealSavers are available in many different sizes and colors to fit both inverted or upside down (USD) and conventional forks. Our Fork SealSavers did not come with installation instructions. However, installing them was fairly easy and required no special tools outside of a torque wrench. You will need to remove the fork legs from the triple-clamps to slide the Fork SealSavers in place. We recommend installing the Fork SealSavers on new or just-serviced fork tubes, however, you can clean the seals and wipers by hand before installing the Fork SealSavers. One of our evaluators used the "cardboard and brake cleaner" method of cleaning the wipers and seals before installing the Fork SealSavers. With the fork tubes clean, simply slide the Fork SealSavers in place and secure the ends on the fork body with the provided zip-ties. Then reinstall the fork legs in the triple-clamp and properly torque all fasteners per the specs in your service manual.

Fork SealSavers offer added protection against dirt, mud and sand, which prolong the life of fork seals and wipers. This is a good thing considering the cost of quality fork seals and wipers, and maybe labor. For the added protection, ease of installation, and available size and color choices, we rated the Fork SealSavers at a near perfect score of 4½ out of 5.

SealSavers BodySaver

The SealSavers BodySaver is a lightweight shirt that can be worn under a jersey. The BodySaver is constructed of lightweight breathable fabric that helps keep a rider warmer in cooler climates and cooler in warmer climates. The BodySaver accomplishes this by wicking perspiration away from the body and allowing it to dry quickly. Not only does it help with rider comfort, when worn by itself the BodySaver provides sun protection to SPF 50. We rode in both temperature extremes while wearing the BodySaver and it was much more comfortable under a jersey than a regular t-shirt. It performed just as SealSavers claimed.

The SealSavers BodySaver performed just as claimed; it keeps the rider cooler in warmer climates and warmer in cooler climates and was very comfortable wearing under a riding jersey. With a larger size (XXL) and a little lower price, we would have given the BodySaver a perfect rating. We gave the SealSavers BodySaver a great rating of 4 out of a possible 5.

SealSavers BarSaver

The SealSavers BarSaver is a short loop of webbing material made to attach a tie-down strap to a handlebar. The BarSaver attaches to the handlebar simply by looping it around the handlebar and back through itself. The tie-down strap then attaches to the BarSaver, as shown here. This keeps the handlebar from being gouged or scratched by metal tie-down hooks, and may also help attach tie-down straps to handlebars that are cluttered with switches, guard mounts, mirror mounts, etc. The webbing material of the BarSaver is lighter compared to other soft-ties on the market. The length of the BarSaver measures 8" total, and when looped around a 1-1/8" handlebar measures ~3-1/2" from the bar and when looped around a 7/8" handlebar measures ~4-1/2" from the bar. When looped around a 1-1/8" handlebar, we felt the 3-1/2" remaining was a little short, especially when strapping a bike down to a device that has its attachment points close together like that of a hitch type carrier. The remaining short length caused the metal tie-down hook to be in close proximity to the triple-clamp and fork, as shown here.

The webbing material of the BarSaver is lighter compared to other soft-ties and we felt the length was a little short for 1-1/8" bars with the bike on a hitch type carrier.
