4Strokes.com Technical: Dirt Bike, ATV & Dual Sport Exhaust Header Wrap
Go
to a local auto parts store or race shop and get a roll of 1-inch wide header
wrap made by Moroso or other manufacturer. You can use 2-inch wide header-wrap
but it may result in a sloppy fit. You will also need 3 stainless steel hose
clamps - 2 for the head-pipes at the cylinder and 1 for the head-pipe/muffler
joint.
Directions: Begin wrapping at the head-pipe "Y" on one pipe and work forward overlapping by ½-inch. Install a stainless steel hose clamp tightly at the end next to the flange. Then start at the head-pipe/muffler joint with a stainless steel hose clamp and wrap forward again, making sure the header wrap does not interfere with the heat shield, and finish off with another stainless steel hose clamp. Make sure the hose clamps do not interfere with anything.
The header wrap has some kind of oil in the cloth so the first run will be somewhat smoky. The header wrap will keep heat from being reflected from the head-pipes back into the cylinder, resulting in decreased operating temperature of the motorcycle. It cleans easily with a high-pressure wash and looks trick!
