Cycra number-plate and cardboard template
XR with Cycra vented number-plate

The best looking modification I've done to my 1996 Honda XR400R was fabricate and mount a Cycra Honda CRF450R half-vented front number-plate in place of the stock Honda headlight / number-plate. Here are the steps I used to mount the Cycra vented number-plate:

  1. Cut out a cardboard template in the shape of the upside down "V" mount, shown in the top photo, and trimmed it up as necessary.
  2. Trace the final cardboard design on a piece of metal.
  3. Cut out the top mount, drill three holes and deburr.
  4. For the bottom mount, just cut a piece flat metal stock and trim it to fit where the plastic locator pins go through from the stock number-plate to the lower triple-clamp.
  5. Bolt the lower number-plate mount to the flat metal piece.

The mounted Cycra vented number-plate is solid and looks really nice. This mod took me about 2 hours from start to finish.
