4Strokes.com Honda Technical: Oil Drain Funnel By KingTutt

The
no mess oil drain funnel. I'm sure this would work for most bikes. The skid
plate on the XR650L makes it nearly impossible to drain oil without it getting
everywhere underneath the engine and all over the skid plate. Take a long stem
funnel, approximately 4" in diameter (preferably with an angled top at
the large end), and cut it so that it will wedge under the drain plug between
the engine and frame and drain oil into a pan on the floor. I cut this one with
a hack saw -- only thing I had at the time that would work. Then use a long
socket extension to remove drain plug and presto! Drain oil without spilling
a drop on the bike or skid plate. I saw something specially made for this procedure
for $20, but it's more fun to make it yourself, and for only $1.99. Why would
anyone pay $20 for a special funnel when you can make your own for less than
$2?
