Top Ten List Why Not To Buy The Yamaha XT250

  1. At 35 mph if you shake the handle bars the rear end shimmies unstably.
  2. At 35 mph the crappy Chinese tires cause a vibration due to dumb tread pattern.
  3. The bike cruises best at 35 mph, slightly faster than a Moped.
  4. It takes 20 minutes to warm up and idle smoothly which makes great for those 5 minute trips around town.
  5. A lot of the motors covers are plastic and leak oil.
  6. It can't be geared up due to the fact that the digital speedometer can not be re-calibrated for the change.
  7. Recalibration can only be done by replacing the Speed Sensor Rotor deep inside the transmission. The locking gas cap leaks on hard trails.
  8. It's better looking than the CRF230 which makes it definitely more dirt worthy.
  9. It takes a tool kit to get to the tool kit.

and with a wr250r sitting next to the xt you bought the xt why?
I dont know,Ive read reviews where the people were happy, maybe they were gpa and gma who just used it around the trailer park.

My wife picked this bike. The WR250 is way too tall for a 5'3" woman. I wanted her to buy the CRF230 but like most women she liked the looks of the XT250 and its color scheme was easier to accessorize with. As for the reviews. The bike has a 1000 miles on it, most of which because of break in period I put on it. It is a great starter bike but I think it was released to the public to quick. Does your WR250 have the digital speedometer like the new ones do? If the new WR's computer is like the XT's you can't gear that bike up either without replacing the Speed Sensor Rotor located deep inside the engine. I'm afraid that this is a sign of things to come and the end of mods.

Wife's Top Ten List Why to buy the xt250
  1. Unlike his XR650, I don't need a step ladder to get on in.
  2. Those Chinese tires vibrate just nicely for me.
  3. 35 mph is fast for a dual sport because 100 mph on the trails is insane.
  4. It's just like a man to take a 5 minute trip when it takes us ladies 20 minutes to warm up.
  5. The XT's gas cap may leak, but unlike CRF's it doesn't look like it was borrowed from a lawn mower.
  6. The XT's smog pump is completely hidden not like the CRF's giant wort on its side.
  7. The XT looks sexy.
  8. The XT is a girls bike and every woman will look great on it.
  9. Because he told me not to buy it.
  10. I don't need to get to the tool kit that's why I got married.

Very funny! New to the forums with a "Girls" bike I guess...But I love my new 2009 Yamaha XT250! Trying to check out the mods and aftermarket now. Pretty happy so far stock.

Don't listen to HorseRider. He thinks quite differently of the bike now. Especially a winter or two back when he tried to go riding through the snow with me. His "Big Red Elephant" kept getting stuck causing me to have to circle back to see if he needed a push.
